PNC Arena

Whether you’re into basketball, hockey, concerts, or special events for your children, there is something for everyone to enjoy at the PNC Arena.  Home to the Carolina Hurricanes, and the NC State Wolfpack, in addition to a wide genre of music groups, it seems like there is always something going on at this venue.

Is the arena in downtown Raleigh?

The arena itself is not in downtown Raleigh but is only about 15 minutes out west and is easily accessible from all directions of the state.  It’s adjacent to the Carter-Finley Stadium and the NC State Fairgrounds and is centrally between I-40 and I-440.

Who owns the arena?

The arena itself is owned by the Centennial Authority, but has leased the grounds to the Hurricanes for another 5 year lease extension until Sept 30, 2029, and through the 2028-29 season.

With regards to the Hurricanes, Tom Dundon is the owner and managing general partner of Hurricanes Holdings, LLC which is a Delaware corporation that owns the Hurricanes franchise granted by the NHL.  Having said this, you would think that the Hurricanes own the PNC Arena as well, but they do not, they operate and manage the grounds.

For more information on the ownership of the Hurricanes or the PNC Arena, you should read this source.

What is club level seating at the PNC Arena?

The premium club seating overlooks the entire floor and provides for some great views.  Not only that, but your adjacent to the Club Restaurant and the Ledge Lounge.  Seating for club level is between sections 226 and 228 and is at the south end of the arena.

The ledge lounge is a great place to catch some action on their big screens while enjoying food and cocktails.  During Hurricane and NC State games, you can take advantage of a carvery sandwich and two beverage vouchers (if you’re Ledge Lounge ticket holders).

How many seats are available for Hockey?

The arena seats 18,176 for ice hockey and has 61 suites, 13 loge boxes, and 2,000 club seats.

How many seats are available for center stage concerts?

With over 150 events per year, the arena holds more center stage seating than it does for ice hockey.  Currently it has capacity for 19,500 people for the center-state concerts and 18,800 for endstage 360 performances.

In the past, famous entertainers such as Bruce Springstein, Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift, Elton John, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and the Harlem Globetrotters have performed at the PNC Arena.  These performers certainly draw large crowds so having ample space is important.

Does PNC Arena have a clear bag policy?

Effective September 18, 2019, the arena will implement a clear bag policy for all guests attending all events – sporting or otherwise.  The recommendation is to bring only essential items, but is limited to only one of the following approved bags:

  • Clear plastic bags not to exceed 12” X 6” X 12”
  • Clear plastic freezer bag not to exceed 1 gallon in size
  • Small purse no larger than 4.5” X 6.5”

Only certain exceptions will be made for medical conditions and families with newborns and infants.

Do you have to pay for parking at PNC Arena?

Yes, parking is an additional expense.  Cars and vans are $20 each and limousines, buses and RVs are $40 each.

There are thousands of parking spaces available for guests, if you’re looking for the most up-to-date parking information we recommend you visit this page.

Are you allowed to tailgate?

Tailgating is not only permitted but it’s actually encouraged.  The facility wants all of their guests to enjoy their time, but they want you to do it safely.  Tailgating should only be done in the area directly in front of your parking or directly behind you.  You cannot tailgate in an empty parking space adjacent to you.  If you’re looking to tailgate in a large group, you are encouraged to park right next to each other, if possible, or you’re welcome to use the grass area in the Carter-Finley lot.
